Expanding Tastes

I’m running out of my graduation money quite quickly. This, combined with the fact that I feel like a bum now that summer has started, has inspired to me to get a job! Or, at least volunteer somewhere so my parents are more likely to give me money… haha.

Something has been coming over me, lately. Although I can’t say who influenced me (really, I can’t, I don’t know!), I have been listening to some old-school rap / hip hop / R&B. At least, old-school to me. This new fascination has, almost sadly, left me a bit disillusioned with Lil Wayne. It seems to me that all of these older, more established rappers were better in their prime (and sometimes now, as well) than Lil Wayne is currently. I’m talking specifically about Mos Def, Common, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Lauryn Hill (yes!), Talib Kweli, Jay-Z, Andre 3000… and others. I’m excited to listen to more.

Also, my schedule for next Fall is about as good as it can be, being a freshman and everything. I’m verrryyy pleased.

Lubbock, or Leave It?

I’ve been in Lubbock for the past few days. I bought a pair of boots for some orientation mixer with a “boots / pearls & snaps” theme. I haven’t owned cowboy boots for years now and never had a REAL pair, so this is a first.

I spent a long time driving around, exploring, and listening to Third Eye Blind. Mostly “Losing a Whole Year”… I have probably listened to that song somewhere upwards of 500 times in the past few days. Alas, the song becomes more depressing every time I hear it.

I’m content with Lubbock. There are plenty of ponds and parks. The country is a few minutes away, really. Nothing excites me more than the hopes of exploring the country side with some tall, dark-headed boy at night and falling in love under the starry sky. Hah. Oh, the places I’ll go…

Hold Me Down

This image reminds me of a much different time in my life - one where I thought I had my true love. A time where everything seemed right in the world. During that time, I was completely innocent. I had no real idea of hurt in my life, I had been "hurt", but I didn't think it could get worse. I was in control of most situations, and I had never been taken advantage of.
It makes me wonder how much I know of hurt now. What pain is left for me to experience? How much more hurt do I have in store for me? My hope is no new pain, only old pains that I've experienced and now know how to put up with and deal with appropriately.
I still envision a love like this picture in my life. Love where simplicity matters most and enjoying life's little wonders is a must. Sitting on a rooftop or lawn watching the skies is most appealing - especially if it can be done with a romantic partner.
